Judicial Candidate Debbie Kunselman to Speak at Clarion County Democratic Dinner April 27; Party Endorses Judicial Candidates

April 21, 2017

Pennsylvania Superior Court Candidate Deborah Kunselman will speak at the Democratic Party of Clarion County’s Annual Spring Dinner on Thursday April 27 at the American Legion, 530 Main St. in Clarion.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cash bar. Dinner is served at 7 p.m., and Kunselman will speak at 8 p.m. This event is open to the public. Cost to attend is $25, and there is still time to buy tickets.

Kunselman currently serves as a judge for the Beaver County Court of Common Pleas. A lifelong resident of Western Pennsylvania, she earned the Pennsylvania Bar Association Judicial Evaluation Committee’s “Highly Recommended” rating for a seat on the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

Elected twice to the bench, Kunselman has presided over family, juvenile and civil cases. She has decided many employment cases, including cases where she upheld appeals from labor arbitration awards.  One of Kunselman’s significant contributions as a trial court judge has been to implement Act 53 in Beaver County. This process allows parents of a minor, suffering from addiction, to petition the courts to force their child to attend inpatient drug and alcohol treatment.

County Party Endorses Judicial Candidates in Key Races

In related news, The Democratic Party of Clarion County has joined the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee in endorsing the following slate of judicial candidates for the May 16 Pennsylvania Primary Election:

Supreme Court: Dwayne Woodruff

Superior Court: Deborah Kunselman, Maria McLaughlin, Geoffrey Moulton, and Carolyn Nichols

Commonwealth Court: Todd Eagen

“I have gotten to know these candidates at state committee meetings, and I can tell you they are all highly competent, genuine people who care about the working families of our state,” said Peggy Lingwall of Clarion, a Committeewoman with the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee. “They are working hard on key issues ranging from gerrymandering and the environment to drug and family-related matters that impact our local residents.

“This is our chance to continue to fill judicial seats with Democrats and build on the 2015 momentum we gained toward electing a majority of Democratic judges across the Pennsylvania courts,” Lingwall added. “It is crucial that local residents get out and vote in the primary and general elections to help turn around our communities across the Commonwealth.”
